By Milton OlupotTHE judicial commission of inquiry into alleged corruption in the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), yesterday obtained a list of corrupt URA staff, including over 50 dismissed in the last two years. The acting Commissioner Human Resource, Mrs. Jennifer Kaggwa, yesterday handed over the list to the chairperson of the commission, Justice Julia Ssebutinde, at the International Conference Centre, Kampala.Kaggwa was testifying before the commission. Ssebutinde had demanded for the list of disciplined, interdicted and dismissed officials.Kaggwa said most of the dismissals were related to corruption. The commission also heard that the former URA Board Secretary, James Byamukama, irregularly employed over 71 people who had sought jobs through unsolicited applications in 2000. Although 16 of the applicants failed the tax body’s internal examinations, they were employed.Ssebutinde said the records indicated that the man who got the least mark was currently the highest paid among the lot, with over sh1m while the rest earned an average of sh700,000. She this demoralised other staff.Ends
