NYAKASURA School celebrated its platinum Jubilee on Saturday with second deputy prime minister and internal affairs minister Eriya Kategaya, warning the school on discipline, reports Simon Mugenyi.“These days when students are striking, they burn property. It is not acceptable because if you have a question with your headmaster, burning equipment won’t solve the problem,” Kategaya, who was the chief guest, said. He said whenever there was misunderstanding, the aggrieved parties should always solve their problems through their leaders.Kategaya criticised teachers who instigate students to burn buildings. He advised the students to use their leaders whenever they had a problem to solve. “Without discipline, you can’t achieve much. Solve the problem through your leaders,” he said. The celebrations begun with a church service, followed by giving of awards to some outstanding members who had contributed in various areas of life, and the launching of a five-year fundraising programme. The celebrations attracted people from as far as the United States and Britain. Some of the old students present included the Director of Public Prosecutions, Richard Butera, ministers and Members of Parliament.About sh6m was realised through auctioning of a heifer and portrait of the founder of the school, Commander E. W. Calwell, bought at sh1,350,000 by trade and industry minister Prof. Edward Rugumayo. The headmaster, David Ocan Kitara, said the function was meant to celebrate and launch the fundraising programme, but because of the love of the old students for the school, the sh6m was collected. The celebrations ended with a cricket match between the old students.
