By Vision ReporterTHE Chief of Military Intelligence, Col. Noble Mayombo has said Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye is involved in rebel activity. Mayombo said he had incontrovertible intelligence evidence to the effect and that some people had been sent to the north to set up camps there.During the weekly press briefing at Nakasero yesterday, Mayombo said those assigned to set up camps in the north are Capt. Magid and Lt. Mugerwa. He said they were receiving supplies, including communication equipment, through Opoka in Gulu. He said intelligence information showed that some members of Besigye’s Reform Agenda are recruiting rebels.“I can tell you where Besigye went yesterday, looking for what, who he met, who he failed to meet and why,†Mayombo told journalists. Members of the Reform Agenda have a right to belong to the organisation, but the problem is if they leave politics and start compromising the country’s security. Then we will not sit back, but hunt them down and charge them in court,†he said.Mayombo blamed the insecurity in the north on political groups, which he said have not learnt democracy.“When you lose an election, you go to court and when you lose there, then you wait for the next election where you campaign and Ugandan’s vote for you. The Army will defend that,†Mayombo said.He said the Government would not take Reform Agenda as a group to court but some of its members who are engaged in subversive activities. He also said the Government had an arrangement with some governments including the UK to deal with the subversive Reform Agenda members. He did not commit himself on whether that included deporting them to Uganda. Mayombo attacked Mbarara Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima, saying she was bent on compromising security. He said the MPs’ call for an inquiry into the CMI should rather be into the Reform Agenda.Ends
