At least eight people were killed in two head-on collisions on major highways between Tuesday evening and yesterday morning. The Police blamed the crashes on reckless driving, report Nicholas Kajoba and A. Turyaguma.

At least eight people were killed in two head-on collisions on major highways between Tuesday evening and yesterday morning. Turyaguma.Four passengers died at Lwanyonyi near Mukono town, on the Kampala-Jinja highway, when an omnibus 995 UDQ collided head-on with a Fuso truck UAD 021M on Tuesday evening.A Dyna truck and a Uganda Breweries trailer yesterday also collided head-on at Kanyaryeru, about 17km on the Mbarara-Masaka highway, killing four.The Police said at Lwanyonyi, the omnibus driver was overtaking while at Kanyareru, the Fuso truck driver was suspected to have been dozing.The accidents came only four days after former deputy head of state Brig. Gad Wilson Toko and Mrs. Christine Kania, a member of the Constitutional Review Commission, died on the Jinja-Kampala Road. The Police identified the dead in the Lwanyonyi crash as Ali Magumba and Musa Kakaire, the driver of the omnibus.The bodies of two unidentified men, who died in the same crash, were still in Kawolo Hospital mortuary yesterday.Several passengers aboard the omnibus were admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. They included Irene Nabiryo, Mutasa Kubinga, Dorothy Nakamya, Carol Ekudu and Richard Lote.In Mbarara the Police identified only one of the four dead, Seremba Dirisa, of Nsangi.Ends
