The National Political Commissar, who is also minister without portfolio, Crispus Kiyonga, has warned Ugandans, particularly the Bakonzo, against wife inheritance, saying it spreads the rate of HIV/AIDS infection.
“This culture of inheriting widows as wives is one of the ways through which HIV/AIDS is spreading very fast. I have been warning Ugandans to avoid it,” he said.
Kiyonga, also MP for Bukonzo West Constituency said this while opening a three-day workshop for people living with HIV/AIDS at the Kasese Catholic Diocese Social Services Hall.
The workshop was organised by the National Guidance and Empowerment Network of people Living with HIV/AIDS (NGEN).
NGEN national co-ordinator Major Rubaramira Ruranga said stigmatisation of people living with HIV/AIDS was still high, and that the launch of a new drug initiative was a dream. Ends
