THE Police yesterday condemned the “Ffe ffeka” operation in Luweero, saying it is no different from mob justice and promised to take action on those involved.

The assistant inspector general of police in charge of administration, Eric Turyatunga, said although the matter was purely operational in nature, the Police was handling it administratively.

“We don’t condone the manner in which the residents acted. Even though they have lost confidence in the police as an institution, it is no excuse for them to attack a police post,” Turyatunga said.

“Their action is no different from mob justice, a vice the police has been talking about over and over again, to the extent of even effecting some arrests. So these won’t be an exception,” he added.

On whether the police had effected any arrests or put in place measures to prevent another raid, Turyatunga referred The New Vision to the director operations, Francis Rwego.

However, Rwego could not be reached for comment as he was not in office and his mobile phone was not available.

The Police stand follows two incidents in which Luweero residents raided a police post on Sunday and Tuesday afternoon and lynched suspects.

The residents, who have taken the law into their hands, have expressed dissatisfaction with the police and have vowed to continue with their operations, until operation Wembley goes to Luweero.

Sources at Kampala Central Police Station yesterday said the raids had raised concern in the force’s high ranks and triggered off a number of high-level meetings.
