KITANTE Hill School underlined their determination to retain the Sprite national schools basketball championship with a clear victory over Nyakasura yesterday.

The win at Nabumali High School, about 13 kilometres south-east of Mbale town assured Kitante, the leading team in Group A, of a place in the quarter finals of the boy’s event.

John Wandera, Eric Omondi and John Odhiambo were at the heart of Kitante’s winning formula.

In the other game, Kabojja beat Bukedi College, Kachonga 87-18 in Monday’s biggest win. Kabojja had beaten hosts Nabumali 50-46 and Kyambogo 39-27.

Kitante, Kabojja, Kibuli and Kyambogo are the leading title contenders in the event sponsored by Century Bottling Company under its Sprite brand soft drink.

In the girls’ event, Kitante school was again in top form with a 60-6 victory over Bukedi College, Kachonga.

In the other game, Kibuli shocked Kitante 22-19.

Action in the week-long championship continues today with several matches on card.
