UGANDAN members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on Thursday clashed over gender balance in the EAC organs.

Sheila Kawamara Mishambi said key officers including the secretary general, Amanya Mushega, need to be re-sensitised.

Medi Kaggwa, who described himself as a traditional man, said Kawamara and other women activists were stretching the gender issue too far, and that in certain circumstances, gender imbalance was inevitable.

They were speaking during the Civic Society Forum with EALA members at Hotel Equatoria.

Kawamara said with the exception of one judge, the top political and civil service officers of the EAC were men.
