SOME of the rebel recruits being trained by UPDF renegades Lt. Col. Anthony Kyakabale and Col. Samson Mande to fight the Movement government are Bakonzo from Kasese district.
Busongora MP Kule Joseph Muranga, who is the parliamentary defence committee chairman, on Sunday said, “We have information that some of our sons and brothers from here (Kasese district) were recruited by the (former presidential candidate) Dr. Kizza Besigye and group.”
Muranga, who was addressing hundreds of mourners at Ntunga village in Buhuhira, Kyabarungira sub-county where a man killed his four-month pregnant wife, said the recruits were being trained in Goma and Ruchuru in the DR Congo.
An old man in his seventies was also killed in reprisal attacks by the woman’s relatives.
Muranga said the people were recruited under the pretext of fighting for obusinga, the Bakonzo cultural institution.
He said the obusinga was due for debate in Parliament and warned against anyone calling on the Bakonzo to take up arms to get it. He cautioned the residents against being lured into such wars.
Muranga wondered why the Bakonzo should fight for a Mukiga (Besigye) to replace a Munyankole (President Museveni) who had nothing to do with the Bakonzo culture. Ends
