Uganda Police better now!

SIR— I have worked in Uganda for three years now, and have had very little to do with the police. I had been lead to believe though, both through press reports and word of mouth, that if I required any assistance on a legal issue, it would be very time-consuming and that I would probably be required to offer large bribes to see any action taken.
I was pleasantly surprised, however, when I recently visited Lira Police Station to lodge a complaint against an unscrupulous trader. My struggles with this trader had been going on since April, and it was vital to our health and education work in northern Uganda that I get the matter settled, and the goods returned. All police officers, from those on the front desk, through to those in the CID rooms, were courteous, helpful and efficient. My case was acted on immediately, and I did not have to resort to bribery or any other unethical practices to see justice done.
I wish to commend the Ugandan police for the work they are doing. Special thanks to Detective AIP Silvanus Kibwota and PC Rogers Watuwa of Lira Police.
