PEPSI Stars pulled off a draw to earn the first point for a Ugandan team at the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championship yesterday.
The Kampala side needed a last minute goal to draw level with Cup holders Magereza from Tanzania in the round robin event at Makerere University grounds.
Norah Nambozo scored the all-important goal to bring back hope to the Ugandan fans.
The draw comes after the other Ugandan side APTECH lost 32-19 to Cereals Board of Kenya in the men’s category.
Mangereza were 15-14 before Nambozo scored her third goal. She made up for two missed penalties earlier.
Florence Babirye also scored three goals, two less than Harriet Apako, the team’s highest scorer with five.
Right winger Juma Mwabiti top scored for the Tanzanian champions who led 11-7 at half time.
Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) women’s team who edged Cereals 18-15 lead the table with three points.
In the other match, Magereza men beat JKT 26-22 in an all Tanzania affair.
