One Of The More Renowned Hallmarks Of This Place Is The Cherished Notion Of The Bargain

With the advent of the new Garden City Mall, Pioneer Mall will truly be outclassed. Ever since the latter was transformed into a so called Mall, there have been a couple of eating spots in the very same place where Antonio’s Grill now stands. For a number of reasons, they all seemed to have suffered an ignominious fate.
A few years down the road and by all accounts this establishment is a roaring success— at least if numbers are anything to go by. However, in the event that you are the romantic type, this is definitely not your cup of tea. This is the sort of joint that is very convenient as a central place that no body in their right mind is bound to miss. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
One of the more renowned hallmarks of this place is the cherished notion of the bargain. Intuitively, since time immemorial, mankind has always yearned and hankered for anything that smacks of a bargain, and yes, there are bargains galore to be found here. Watch out for their daily specials.
Well, there is nothing alarming or wrong with wanting to get the most out of one’s hard earned money, if you are not awfully fussy about quality and noise, then this is the place for you. Where else can one have a cup of tea, two eggs, toast and a sausage for a modest sh2,000?
The sausage, as is so often the case, is deep fried and wilted. Last Saturday, we ordered their quarter served with French fries. Rather overdone I am afraid— a case of being deep fried and then put aside to be served only when the order was made.
The fries fared no better. They were greasy and limp. Were we supposed to be consoled because we were only paying sh3,200? I was not impressed.
The fillet steak in true tested and expected Ugandan style was pounded and flattened, being almost reduced to a wafer thin state. Rare or medium, do not event contemplate the thought. Well done is the order of the day. The price was a trifling sh2,000.
Very few places in town serve brewed coffee. Here they have it in plenty and for a very worthwhile sh1,000.
Antonio’s Grill is very well situated and has a lot of traffic along with stragglers and deadbeats. The open kitchen is hardly enticing, having a domestic cooker that appears to be dirty and unkempt.
The waitresses, who shuffle about in slippers, are slovenly and dishevelled in faded green t-shirts.
While the tables are remarkably kept clean, the same cannot be said about the floor. Should they sweep the floors while customers are eating? I say that sweep. Failing to do so gives the place a very unflattering and untidy appearance. We like the diversity of the menu, especially the Mexican touch. Ends
