‘Ghost’ scares Mutungo people

A drunken man on Tuesday left many homes in Mutungo parish, Nakawa division scared when he decided to imitate ghosts in the late hours of the night.
A drunken man on Tuesday left many homes in Mutungo parish, Nakawa division scared when he decided to imitate ghosts in the late hours of the night.
The casual worker, who, after a good day’s work went on a drinking spree decided to stagger to his house after 1:00am shouting in a strange voice.
He repeatedly said that he too was a coward when he was still alive but no longer feared moving in the night since his death last year. “Bwenali omulamu ngantya nyo naye kati sitya,’ he said as he walked briskly.
A scared man who was also returning from another drinking joint that night relieved people when he assured them that it was not ghosts but one of their own neighbours called Kwarakwara.
He too told neighbours that he was terribly scared by the sound as he moved home and that as the “ghost†approached him, he hid into a sugar cane plantation to take a a good look at it.
It was then that he discovered that it was none other than his neighbour, Kwarakwara.
But what scared the people most were the rumours that had circulated in the area days before, that a ghost had stormed the place and that it was moving from home to home.
People had even been warned that the same ghost had no ears and had goat legs instead of human ones.
The rumour had it that when it walked, the goat hoofs knocked the ground like somebody wearing high-heeled shoes.
Kwarakwara later apologised to his neighbours that he too was scared of the night and that he decided to imitate the ghosts so that they would think he was one of them and give him safe passage. People were annoyed with him but many also were amused by the logic.
