SIR— I would like to respond to the intriguing letter by Dr William Ejalu from Budafest, Hungary, titled “Clamp-down on Monitor a miscalculation!” in yesterday’s New Vision.

A helicopter is a big thing. Where can the army hide it? Where have the dead pilots been buried or hidden? The Monitor reporter asked the military spokesman to confirm the story whether our helicopter had crashed, which Maj Shaban Bantariza refuted, but his statement was excluded from the story.
The reporter, Frank Nyakairu, knows a helicopter for sure. He is known to be a son of our respected senior officer Lt Col Nyakairu of the Airforce headquarters at Entebbe. He went ahead to write that a helicopter had crashed. He could have quietly asked his father to prove Maj Bantariza wrong, if he had good intentions. Now Hon Winnie Byanyima, the MP for Mbarara Municipality, says we parade all the helicopters including the “junk” ones. This is just to make fun in serious matters. It may be that The Monitor wanted to give the impression that the helicopter gunship was not a threat to Kony. Yet some captives have escaped when it was used to hit the rebels. Dr Ejalu staying outside for the moment, may not know some of our people today.
The UPDF has not closed The Monitor nor arrested Nyakairu. The police did and is investigating the paper. We hope that soon it will be on the streets again. However, we call upon the public to support us to end the Kony terror.
