NOT even the comfort of her mother’s arms appeared to soothe the sharp pain in Jawuhara Naiga’s severed leg, reports Geoffrey Kamali.

The four-year-old was one of the four nursery school children who fell victim to a bizarre attack by a lunatic in Kazo-Bwaise, a Kampala suburb on Monday.

“See what the man did to my child!” said a distressed Mayengo yesterday, as tears rolled down the little girl’s face from one eye.

A number of relatives came to the ward to comfort her. Naiga is admitted to Ward 3B for emergency cases at Mulago hospital.

The lunatic, Edward Mwanje, stunned residents when he hacked two nursery school-going children to death.

Sitting on her mother’s lap, Naiga stared blankly at the visitors through bruised eyelids. Her forehead and right arm were heavily bandaged while her right leg was slightly cut.

She was feeding through a tube running through her nose.

Doctors said she had been in a coma for over eight hours.

“She is still in a bad condition but we now hope she will make it,” Mayengo added as she looked at her little girl.

In the same ward, a turn-boy, Yuda Lubandi, lost both his legs at the ankles which were severed by a tractor in Lugazi, Mukono district.

There was a rush to the ward as people craned their necks to have a glimpse of his legs which were carried to the hospital in a separate box.
