PETER Okitoi’s accuracy earned him his first major victory over Kobs’ sensation Saul Mukasa in the Soroti Open darts championship.
The champion won 3-1 on his home turf after outclassing a field of over 50 participants at Bisina Inn on Sunday.
On his way to the final, Okitoi overcame Me-Ups’ Nkuruzisa 3-2 while Mukasa whitewashed Bank of Uganda’s David Isabirye 3-0.
Okitoi showed his singles win was no fluke by pairing with Raymond Ekadu for another victory in the doubles.
After his defeat in the main event, Mukasa took solace by winning the subsidiary event.
Mukasa beat Lugazi’s Ronald Kalanzi 3-0 for the subsidiary title.
Meanwhile, preparations have started for the inter-club knockout this weekend.
The two-day event starts on Saturday at Club Five in Makerere University.
Uganda Darts Association (UDA) chairman Gordon Bamutura said that over 20 clubs have already confirmed entry for the meet.
