Prostitution is not just commercial

SIR— Recently many organisations met at Hotel Africana in Kampala to address the issue
of commercial sex workers, among other issues of health significance.
They included more than a dozen NGOs,
government departments,
religious organisations, researchers and academicians under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
At the end of the two-day workshop, the group came out with a unified front as advocates for the legalisation of commercial sex.
I would like to register my disappointment that the participants in the workshop were concerned only with the physical side of sex workers, leaving out the spiritual health.
It is unfortunate that such a workshop the spiritual health of our people is not addressed with serious concern. I want to appeal that the resolutions made during that workshop be revisited by those concerned.
