THE World Council of Credit Unions (WCCU) has dispatched a team of trainers and experts to offer technical assistance to cooperatives in Jinja Municipality, MP Harry Kasigwa has said.

Kasigwa, Jinja West MP, said he was optimistic the revival of the co-operative movement will be successful because of the enthusiasm Ugandans have shown towards uniting for purposes of embarking on business projects.

He was speaking at the launch of the Madi Development Association at Main Street Primary School on Saturday.

He called upon members of the association to learn saving skills to enable them steer their organisation to greater heights.

He warned them against leaving management of the organisation in the hands of the executive saying this was one of the reasons that lead to the collapse of the once great co-operative movement in the 1980s.

Kasigwa pledged to give the association sh100,000 as a boost in their activities and advised them to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the WCCU.
