THIRTY-seven Makerere University students took a gamble and lost when the Senate discontinued them for engaging in exam malpractices.

The decision was taken last month after the committee of deans, which represents the Senate, found them guilty of examination malpractice. The Senate is the academic decision-making body of the university.

A total of 56 students were being probed by the committee last semester.

Academic Registrar Sebastian Ngobi said in an interview that the students had been stopped from pursuing their studies.

A statement from his office on Tuesday had the names of the discontinued students.

The students were from various faculties and departments, including 15 from education, six from education (external), one from law, four from the business school, four from tourism, five commerce (external), and two from the faculty of industrial art.

Ngobi said examination malpractice was punishable by discontinuation.
“The regulations are very clear and we try warn students in advance,” he said.
