THREE companies have bid for the upgrading of the 106 kilometre Karuma-Pakwach road, which runs through Murchison National Game Park in Gulu district.
An insider in the Ministry of Works, said the three companies were Solel Boneh International (SBI), Spencon/Sogea and China Chonggong.
SBI, a multi-million dollar Israeli construction company is currently undertaking the three year contract of upgrading the sh42b Arua-Nebbi road which covers a distance of 77km.
Minister of Works, Eng. John Nasasira recently confirmed the bidding process and said “Yes, three companies bid, because the process was advertised in The New Vision.”
He said the 106km stretch of the road will cost Government sh58b, money which was borrowed from the World Bank. He said the money was already on Government account.
Nasasira said two contractors will work on the road, because it will be divided into two sections. One section will be Karuma-Olwiyo which will cost about sh30b and the Olwiyo-Pakwach portion which will cost about sh28b. Ends
