Five die in car accident
NTUNGAMO — Five people died and 15 others injured yesterday in a collision involving a minibus and a saloon car at Nyaruteme, 35km on the Mbarara-Ntungamo road. The police said the minibus driver lost control after a tyre burst. The dead were Sabiiti, the headmaster of Kahunga PS, Laban Mwesigye of Ndeija, Sadiiki Kansiime of Nyakasanga in Kasese, Godfrey Turyamwesimira, a student of Kiyora TTC and Jane Kyoshabire of Kabingo in Isingiro.

Nairobi, Kenya, Tuesday — Ford-People Party presidential candidate Simeon Nyachae was cleared at 10:00am on Tuesday by the Electoral Commission of Kenya, a day after KANU’s Uhuru Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki of NARC were also given the nod.
Guard sent on remand
KAMPALA — A Security guard was yesterday remanded in Luzira Prison over store-breaking and theft of property worth sh6m belonging to the Uganda Red Cross. Robert Mwesigye, 38, appeared before Nakawa Court Grade One Magistrate Alex Ajiji. He denied the charges. Prosecution said Mwesigye committed the offence on November 8, at a warehouse in Ntinda.
Teacher jailed for defiling
kampala — A teacher from Luweero district has been sentenced to five years in prison for defiling his primary five pupil last year. Edward Matovu, 30, a teacher of St. Jude Primary School, was sentenced on his own plea of guilt by Justice Moses Mukiibi. The victim got pregnant and had a baby.
The judge said five years were suitable because Matovu was repentant.
Adulterr to serve 8 years
JINJA — The Chief Magistrate, Roy Byaruhanga, has sentenced a 35-year- old man, who admitted committing adultery, to eight months in prison. Peter Akojol is also to pay a fine of sh60,000 to the complainant upon completion of his term at Kirinya prison. Rose Aiyo, wife to Samuel Erutu, was cautioned against promiscuity.
