THE Cotton Development Organisation, the national regulator, has increased the farmgate price for seed cotton to sh350, up by sh95 from last year’s price.
CDO on Saturday advised farmers not to accept any price lower than the one they have set. ‘This is the price that every farmer should expect for his/her kilogramme of seed cotton at his/her doorstep,’ said a CDO release Saturday.
‘The reason for the price increase is as a result of an improvement in world cotton market prices from an average of 39 US cents per pound CIF Europe in the last season to an average of 53 US cents per pound CIF Europe this season,’ the release states.
CDO advises farmers to sort their cotton and bargain for the best price with whoever wants to buy it. In areas experiencing heavy rains the CDO cautioned farmers to ensure that they dry their cotton to avoid quality deterioration. Ends
