PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has assured that there “will never, ever be any discrimination against anybody because of his or her faith” in Uganda, reports Edris Kisambira.

Museveni, in his congratulatory message to Muslims last evening on the completion of the Holy month of Ramathan, said Muslims, Christians and other believers are citizens.

“All religions are from God and therefore, we should all be equal without any form of segregation,” Museveni said.

Wishing the Muslims joyful Idd El-Fitri celebrations, Museveni said the Government was committed to “peace and stability, which has enabled Muslims to successfully complete the Holy Month of Ramathan.”

“The Government has gone ahead to settle disputes that have for long time been cause of religious factionalism among the Muslim Community,” Museveni said, adding that the expansion of the Islamic University in Uganda to Kampala and completion of King Fahad Plaza were great achievements to Muslims and Uganda.

“I particularly thank His Royal Highness the King of Saudi Arabia and Brother Col. Muammar Gadhafi for the love they have shown to Muslims of Uganda and the country in general,” he said, noting that the construction of the Grand Mosque at Old Kampala by the Libyan government will have “far reaching effect.”

On his part, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Mutebi II said he will join his people of Kibibi, Butambala in Mpigi district for the Idd-el-fitri prayers at the Kibibi mosque. He also congratulated the Muslims on completing Ramadhan, a statement said.
