PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Saturday joined over 200 tourists to view wildlife in Murchison Falls National Park.
He also campaigned for more tourists to visit the parks, saying they were safe destinations.
Museveni viewed the spectacular wildlife in the park including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and lions, as he flew in a helicopter during the golden jubilee of the national parks.
The ceremony was organised by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
Museveni addressed the celebrants at Paraa in Murchison Falls Park after they had engaged in different activities including fishing and bird watching.
Murchison and Queen Elizabeth national parks in western Uganda, were the first parks to be established in 1952.
Museveni attacked the west, who he said advised against tourism in Uganda.
They had claimed that the country was unsafe.
He said this was crippling tourism and hence sabotaging the country’s development.
He wondered why they did not have advisory notes on September 11 when the World Trade Centre was hit by terrorists.
He repeated his earlier promises to end insecurity in the north, saying donors had agreed on more funds for defence.
UWA recognised Museveni’s efforts to conserve wildlife and establish more parks despite the pressure from an increasing population. Ends
