MEMBERS of Parliament from Ankole (Mbarara, Ntungamo and Bushenyi) are to take part in a sh600m fundraising drive for the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).

James Tumusiime, the chairman of the Host Region Initiative (HRI) fundraising committee, said in a statement that they agreed to fundraise for the next three months and collect at least sh3m each.

The money is for the completion of a three-storey building for the development studies faculty.

The statement said 65% of the construction work on phase one had been completed and the 35% should be complete by June 2003.

The committee is targeting sh100m, courtesy of the MPs efforts.

“A new three-storey faculty building is being constructed in three phases. We need sh600m to complete phase one,” the statement said.

It said the fundraising was to make up for the government funding gap, and added that the current construction was being done with funds generated from privately sponsored students.
