THE parliamentary appointments committee yesterday approved the appointment of five new heads of diplomatic missions.

The committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, sat at the Parliament building in Kampala.

The five approved were Adonia Ayebale, Rhoda Sinani, Cissy Taliwaku, Mull Katende, and the permanent secretary in the foreign affairs ministry, John Bakayana Kityo.

President Yoweri Museveni appointed the heads of diplomatic missions together with seven ambassadors early this month.

The committee approved the appointment of six of the seven ambassadors last week. Joseph Okwet, one of the nominees was rejected because he holds a British passport.

The new ambassadors approved by the committee were Movement historical Brig. Matayo Kyaligonza and former ministers Deo Rwabita and Kweronda Ruhemba.

Others were Jacob Okello, Dr. Sisye Kiryapawo and Charles Walimbwa.

With the exception of Ayebare, others named for heads of missions are professional foreign service officers at the ministry headquarters in Kampala.
