KENYA'S Attorney General, Amos Wako has complained about the rampant dumping of cheap sugar in Kenya.
Wako said the situation had worsened after Kenya became party to the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (Comesa) treaty.
Under the terms of the treaty, imports from COMESA member countries enter at a reduced duty.
"Dumping of cheap sugar into the local market is a serious issue that must be tackled. The government is doing everything to ensure that this is checked," he said.
He said the low prices sugar was landing at Mombasa, showed that some countries who are not COMESA members were using the treaty to dump their sugar in Kenya. Ends
