IT is holiday time. Parents, have thought about how the senior four and six vacationists occupy themselves during this long holiday. Though the children will have plenty of time with their parents, the chances of them indulging in immoral behaviour are also high.

Family Life Network (FLN), a Christian Non-Governmental Organisation has come out to advise senior four and six leavers how to protect themselves from early pregnancy and contraction of HIV/AIDS. But mostly, on how to prevent themselves from consuming pornography.

On December 9 and 10, FLN organised a conference for S.4 and S.6 leavers on sexuality, relationships and pornography at Sharing Youth Centre in Nsambya, Kampala.

Stephen Langa, the director of FLN, told the students that pornography is the leading cause of homosexuality, lesbianism among youths, divorce and contraction of HIV/AIDS.

“Once you go into pornography, you will never leave it. The more you consume it, the more sexual desires. This results into people sleeping with their relatives, prostitutes because of the sex urge they get after watching and reading pornography,” Langa said.

Adding, “Once pornography has got a rule over you, you become indisciplined. Such acts force families to separate because one of the spouses tends to go to another person to practice what he has read or seen.”

In respect to the above situation, Juma Bamutya an S.4 leaver of Jinja S.S can not hold back his tears due to what pornography caused in their family.

“Whenever I look around, I just shed tears. This happened in our family. My father and mother divorced. The cause was pornography. My mother used to watch blue movies and read pornography magazines.”

“We thought she had a mental problem but that was not the case. I could not believe when I came back from school abruptly and found my mother’s boyfriend naked in my father’s bedroom,” Bamutya revealed with tears rolling down his eyes.

Florence Achan, an S.4 leaver told the conference that one of their family friends used to take pornographic literature home. She said that the son of the family friend become addicted to pornography and started taking drugs which forced him to rape her sister and other girls. The boy is said to be HIV positive.

In conclusion, Langa told the participants to stay away from pornography so that they do not indulge in criminal acts and irresponsible sex.
