THE race for the Mukono district chairmanship is heating up.

Godfrey Ddamulira, the current acting chairman and Francis Lukooya Mukoome have started door-to-door campaign ahead of nominations set for January 6 and 7, 2003.

The seat fell vacant recently when court nullified the election of former district chairman Joseph Kanakulya Banga for lack of academic qualifications.

At a press conference held at Kaliga theatre in Mukono recently, Banga said he would support Ddamulira for the district seat.

“I decided to stand down in favour of Ddamulira. I have received several calls from anonymous people asking me not to stand again,” Banga said.

A Uganda Young Democrat (UYD) activist, Dr. Lulume Bayiga, who had earlier expressed interest to contest, also said he would support Ddamulira.

Lukooya said, “I am coming back for the district seat. I am ready and I promise all my supporters a win.”
