THE Electoral Commission (EC) has issued guidelines for LC3 elections to take place tomorrow throughout the country.

By John KakandeTHE Electoral Commission (EC) has issued guidelines for LC3 elections to take place tomorrow throughout the country.EC chairperson Hajji Aziz Kasujja in a statement issued yesterday, said the elections to take place tomorrow are for the chairpersons, direct councillors and the women councillors at the sub-county, town council and municipal divisions.There will, however, be no elections in Kumi.According to the guidelines, only voters who registered during the photographic registration exercise will vote using the certificates, which were issued to them.Voting for the chairperson, direct councillors and women councillors shall take place tomorrow at the same polling station. Voting shall be by universal adult suffrage and secret ballot.Each polling station will comprise of three sections with a total of nine tables. There will be a separate section for the chairperson, direct councillors and women councillors.A voter shall first vote for the chairperson, then for the direct councillors and then women councillors. A voter shall be required to present his or her registration certificate after which he or she will be issued with a ballot paper for the chairperson. After a voter will proceed to the second section where he or she will be issued with a second ballot paper to vote for the direct councillors.After voting for the direct councillors, a voter will proceed to where he or she will be issued with a third ballot paper to vote for the women councillors.It has not been established with polling day will be a public holiday. Asked about the matter yesterday, Teddy Mugote, the Electoral Commission’s deputy spokesperson said she needed to cross check with the relevant officials before making any announcement. The elections for chairpersons and councillors for the Municipalities as well as City Divisions are scheduled to take place on January 10, 2002. But the date for the chairpersons and councillors of District Councils has not been announced yet.Ends
