KBC ruled Open champions!

BY NORMAN KATENDEKAMPALA Boxing Club (KBC) will not have to return the trophy they won at the National Open Championship as they were declared champions.Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) had declared them winners after the championship finals on Sunday but rivals Zebra petitioned claiming that they had more points.This forced UABF into a recount which took three days. The end result saw KBC accumulate 25 points, beating Zebra by a single point.“We have finalised the matter,” said UABF secretary Muhammed Ssebuguzi yesterday. “Zebra had added two points for a boxer who did not fight in the final.”Ssebuguzi said that though the new rules say that a losing finalist has to get 2 points, Zebra’s Hassan Saku did not weigh in or appear in the ring giving KBC’s Mohammed Kayongo the national title by a walk over.Final resultsKBC 25 pointsZebra 24Kololo 19UPDF 17Jose 16 BHS 13Johnny 8Scorpion 7Marine 7
