By Josephine MaserukaMENGO officials have hailed the Movement Secretariat recommendation calling for a comprehensive study of the federo type of governance.Mengo yesterday said it was a sign of good governance and political maturity, which could lead to stability of the country. The Secretariat, in a 16-page document, ‘Constitutional Review Exercise Participation of Movement organs, said, “The call for federo is a matter that cannot be wished away but has to be addressed once and for all.”The document was recently presented to members of the National Executive Committee of the Movement National Conference during a closed-door meeting at Kyankwanzi Leadership Institute in Kiboga. The Mengo minister for health, Robert Ssebunya, said, “I was a bit excited about the recommendation. At last the Government is becoming positive to look at the contentious issues, like federo, that are bothering the nation.”He added, “I think this is good governance when the Government realises the need for reviewing issues of great concern to the people. I am pleased and indeed others who advocate for a federal status are equally pleased.”Asked what type of federal system the Baganda wanted, he said the matter has been ably handled by the John Katende Committee which is to present its findings to the Constitutional Review Commission.Ends
