By Moses Nampala Jinja Resident Judge Justice Joram Bamwine on Monday visited the scene where a rally car belonging to Kampala business tycoon Karim Hirji crashed.Hirji’s car crashed with a Kakira sugar works tractor three years ago.Hirji is seeking special and general damages worth over sh700m against Kakira sugar works (the defendant).Both parties where represented when the high court visited the accident scene at Kakira, on the Jinja-Namasiga road. Kakira sugar works is represented by senior counsel Bart Katurebe and Marvin Byaruhanga, while Hirji is represented by Michael Akampulira and kanyerezi Masembe.Akampurira contends that the accident in which his client lost a rally car worth over sh700m was caused by negligence, carelessness and reckless driving of the defendant’s driver in the course of his employment.the Uganda Revenue Authority commissioner for customs and excise duty, Hellen Kajuna, testified before Bamwine that the ill-fated car had been valued at 30,000 Deutchmarks.Court had summoned the commissioner to ascertain the value of the reportedly imported car.Ends
