Museveni Visits City Violence Victims

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday visited victims who were injured during the Saturday mayoral campaign violence in Kansanga, a Kampala suburb.

By Geoffrey kamaliPresident Yoweri Museveni yesterday visited victims who were injured during the Saturday mayoral campaign violence in Kansanga, a Kampala suburb.Museveni, who at first addressed a group of city women at the International Conference Centre, drove to Kansanga at 5:30pm and also addressed mini-rallies along the way.He later travelled to Wankulukuku close to MP Ken Lukyamuzi’s home in Lubaga Division and addressed the people there at 8:00pm.The President was welcomed by the crowds and took opportunity to answer their queries.Seven people were injured, two of them seriously during a stone- throwing brawl between supporters of Wasswa Ziritwawula and Ssebaana Kizito, contenders for the Kampala mayoral seat. Museveni consoled the victims, Peterson Katete, a student of Tropical High School, and Ronald Lubajja, a resident of Mas’ana Zone, Kansanga.He also addressed the residents and visited the house of Zula Ssekajja, which was reportedly attacked during the violence.“Bannange nga mulabye nabatemu,” (sorry about the attack by bandits) he said. He said those who caused the violence had provoked trouble. “Bakutte ku mukira gwengo. Whoever starts violence has declared war on us, he said.”He said they would be arrested and wiped out like Kony, ADF and Obote were.Museveni was accompanied by the Kampala Woman MP Margaret Zziwa and Kayunga RDC Naava Nabagesera, a former Kampala mayoral candidate. Capt Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son, was part of the President’s security escort.Museveni attacked Mayor Ssebaana for failure to develop the city and for neglecting feeder roads.He said while Karamoja people have access to free clean water, those in Kampala are still buying water and have no access to clean water which he said is surprising.“You are to blame for electing the wrong leaders,” Museveni said.On his way back, Museveni visited Kabalagala Police Post and directed the OC station Steven Onencan to investigate the Kansanga incident and arrest the culprits.Ends
