By Solomon MuyitaCANDIDATES registering for the Ordinary Level Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) exams will be required to present their original Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) pass slips. It is one of the new measures by the Ministry of Education and Sports to curb examination malpractices.John Agaba, the acting commissioner for secondary education, last weekend said, “We have discovered that some private schools have been taking students whose results were cancelled. “They clamour for the students basing on their mock examination results. This meant the UNEB results of P.7. were useless, because they also register freely for Senior Four final exams.”Agaba said, “This will no-longer work. P.7. exams are to be taken seriously. It will be a requirement to present the UNEB pass slip before being registered for O’ Levels.” He was officiating at a P.7. leavers’ certificates-award ceremony for Mugwanya Preparatory School at Kabojja. The school registered 100% pass, with all its 87 candidates who sat for PLE passing in grade one with between aggregate four and eleven.Agaba commended the Christian-founded school for its excellent performance and maintaining a clean record without any examination malpractice. The Wakiso District Education Officer, Male Ssekamatte, said the school posted the best PLE results in the district. He said Wakiso schools got 24% in the PLE results, becoming the second best district after Kampala that had 34%. The school headmaster, Brother Charles Ssengendo, commended the management committee and the parents for the good results.Ends
