Rwenzori Mountain conquered

By William Muwonge IT was a dream come true for Igor Kottman who successfully skied the Margherita glacier on Rwenzori Mountains at the weekend.Kottman made a distance of 300m. The skier from Slovakia, is the first man to race at the mountains in several years. Kottman, 36, was the only skier at the event code-named the Blue Mango Rwenzori Mountain Ski Challenge. “It was a tough experience, you have got to be fit both physically and mentally,” the head of corporate banking at Citibank Uganda said. “I had all along wanted to ski on Rwenzori.”Kottman was Wednesday decorated with a gold medal for his exploits by state minister for trade Abel Rwendeire. Rwendeire presided over an event to welcome back Kottman and his friends from Rwenzori. The challenge organiser Mark Myers said the event will be annual.“The event was filmed for the international community. It was also meant to market the mountains and prove that skiing can be done here,” Myers said.ends
