FMU changes calendar to suit Safari rally

FEDERATION of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has rescheduled the Shell Helix rally to give Ugandan drivers ample time to prepare for the Kenya Safari rally.

By Douglas Mazune FEDERATION of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has rescheduled the Shell Helix rally to give Ugandan drivers ample time to prepare for the Kenya Safari rally.The FMU executive on Wednesday shifted the Shell rally from July 5-7 to June 21-23.The change will give drivers three weeks to prepare for the Safari rally, the only World Rally Championship event in Africa.The MOSAC organised Silk Night sprint which was earlier scheduled for June 21-23 will be given another date later by the rally body.The Fraternity rally has also been moved from June 7-9 to, the last weekend of May. “Sponsors requested for a change and we had to do so,” FMU assistant secretary Kisitu Mayanja told The New Vision yesterday.TOTAL driver Charlie Lubega and Caltex’s Moses Lumala have shown interest in competing in the Safari.Former national champions Karim Hirji and Emma Katto who have featured prominently in the world championship event have not yet shown interest this year.ends
