By Samson Opus JOHN Opio dug deep into his vast experience to overcome teenage sensation Saul Mukasa 4-3 in the UDA darts Club Five mini-open final at Makerere on Sunday.Both players were near perfect with the dart, and tension reigned for long.Trailing 2-0, Kobs star Mukasa showed why he is destined to be the new star of the game by charging past veteran Opio to take a 3-2 lead.But “Big John” cooled his nerve to ward off the challenge with a killer finishing touch as he levelled it 3-3 before taking the decisive game.“It was tough but I just played it cool,” said URA club’s Opio.On top of the trophy, Opio earned himself a sh15,000 prize from spectator Eric Odong who also offered sh12,000 to the top woman. Monica Katushabe (Me-Ups) won the women’s singles after beating Florence Kigongo 3-1.Opio paired with Michael Nyeko to beat Police’s Joseph Jingo and Koriang Lokong in the doubles that were also hotly contested.The team title went to Opio/Nyeko, Francis Byakatonda/James Edatu. They outclassed Mathius Okwir/Emanuel Ocaya/Charles Otto/Owiny Tito.The Club Five sponsored event attracted 80 participants from various clubs, with Uganda darts boss Gabriel Oloka a keen player and observer.The three-day event was a warm up for the league slated to start on April 6. The transfers conclude on March 23 with another Mini-Open in Nsambya.ends
