Eye surgery

SIR— I refer to the letter on cataract surgery that appeared on March 11. The article on laser surgery was misunderstood as cataract surgery which has been available in Uganda for many years. Dr Joshi and International Hospital intend to carry out phacoemulsification, cataract surgery and laser treatment for eye diseases which is standard in Europe and America. It does not require any sutures and the healing process begins in a couple of days rather than a couple of months as with traditional methods. Dr Joshi has held eye camps at Jinja Hospital and he wants to hold similar camps.Judy Mugoya, International Hospital
