POLICE chief Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala yesterday said the assault of policeman at Kabalagala Police Post by Lt. Gen. David Tinyefuza’s last week was not an institutional act, reports Geoffrey Kamali and Grace Matsiko. But he said as a human being, Tinyefuza could be exonerated because he had ‘owned up’ and apologised. Tinyefuza is senior presidential advisor on security.“Even rebels who have killed people are given amnesty, what is wrong with pardoning the General who has extended an olive branch and owned up? We’re all human beings. We can err,†he said.Katumba’s remarks followed calls by MPs for immediate action against Tinyefuza, saying it is not a personal matter for the army General to discuss with the Police. Tinyefuza’s escorts last week literally overran the Police post, disarmed the policemen on duty and beat them up.
