SIR— According to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, Operation Sigma says several people whose power was recently disconnected have been found having re-connected themselves and others using power from an underground network.
SIR— According to the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company, Operation Sigma says several people whose power was recently disconnected have been found having re-connected themselves and others using power from an underground network.However, what is known is that the UEDCL staff are themselves involved. They are the ones who climb the power poles to connect illegal supply and tamper with meter seals and replace new ones from UEDCL. No customer can either climb the poles or reverse the meter reading. The Sigma engineers and their relatives use the power without being charged the high tariffs. Therefore the operation cannot be transparent because the high tariffs are oppressing everybody. The engineers will be tempted to take bribes. The solution is for our MPs to re-examine electricity tariffs again. Otherwise Operation Sigma will end up benefitting only those in it.Peter KakyesubulaKampala
