Justice Akiiki Kiiza convicted Swamdu Kigundu, Johnson Kasibante, and Augustine Bogere, saying prosecution had proved them guilty of the offence. Edson Mbiringi, the acting assistant Commissioner of Police in- charge of crime, told The New Vision that Alenyo rang and said he could not appear because he was seeing a doctor.------Pupil killedPALLISA — Lightning struck Lyama Muslim primary school on Saturday afternoon, killing one pupil and injuring six others. The incident occurred during a heavy storm at around 1:00pm. The pupils were having prayers led by the deceased, Awali Busuule of P.3. The headmaster, Sheikh Rajab Waletererya, said they were attending Zuhur, (lunch time) prayers.------CID trainersKAMPALA — A total of 14 senior detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday completed a trainers course at the Police training School Kibuli. They were passed out by CID Deputy Director, Okoth Ochola, who represented the Inspector General of Police. Ochola said the training was timely because the Police needed discipline.------Court ordersKAMPALA — Court has issued a warrant of arrest against a man who is charged with store breaking and theft of cartons of pangas worth 34m. The Nakawa Grade One magistrate, J.B. Byarugabaha, ordered Michael Ochieng’s arrest after he jumped bail. Ochieng, 29, resident of Kyebando, was charged with Ali Ondoga, 28, a resident of Naguru Go-down. Ondoga was present in court.------UPDF toldMBARARA — The new UPDF second division commander, Col. Poteli Kivuna, has advised the soldiers in the division to start income-generating projects to improve their family’s welfare. He was addressing field commanders and senior officers of the division at Makenke Barracks on Saturday. He said the division would initiate training programs to improve soldiers incomes. ------Cop deadYUMBE — The district police community liaison officer, Richard Aliga, has died. Aliga has also been the officer in-charge of the district barracks. The District Police Commander, Sam Okoth Araa, told The New Vision that Aliga died after a short illness at Yumbe Hospital on Sunday morning.------Iteso uniteBUSIA — The Iteso from the Uganda-Kenya border have united under the Kenya-Uganda Iteso Co-operation to foster development in the two countries. The members discussed strategies of addressing common issues at a meeting held at Malaba town hall on Friday. Iteso cultural leader Emorimor attended the meeting.------Didi caseKAMPALA — A lawyer, Henry Baganika, has asked the Court of Appeal to nullify Moyo West election petition ruling that was in favour of Agard Didi and declare the seat vacant. Representing Raphael Baku Obdra, the loser in the election, Baganika said Justice Augustus Kania ruled against the will of the people. Obdra is the deputy director of research at the Movement Secretariat.------KagonyeraKAMPALA — An official of the Presidents office, Karokora Katono, has asked the Court of Appeal to nullify the election of the Minister of General Duties in the Prime Minister’s office, Mondo Kagonyera, as Rubaba county MP. Katono lost the election and a subsequent petition against Kagonyera.------Arapai pleaSOROTI — Lecturers at Arapai Agricultural College have requested the Ministry of Education to improve their accommodation facilities, which they said, is in very poor condition. Prosecutor Patrick Mukozi told court presided over by Grade I Magistrate Geofrey Karimari that Muhumuza and Esther Bonabana attacked Pastor Katungi at The African Village Bar.------Four perishMITYANA — Four people died and 10 were seriously injured when a Tata lorry collided with a taxi they were travelling in on the Mubende-Mityana road on Thursday. By Saturday, the injured were still admitted at Mityana hospital where they were rushed for treatment. The lorry was being driven by a priest identified as Siriri Balaba.------Priest jailedMAKINDYE — A priest of Kawuku Church of Uganda, Makindye who allegedly stole cash from the church and bought a boda-boda motorcycle, was on Friday remanded at Luzira Prison. James Nyanzi, 28, a resident of Kawuku Ggaba, denied the charge but did not have sureties to get bail. He reappears on April 22.
