By Okello JabweliTHE Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has extended his fundraising campaign to Parliament. In a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament yesterday, Katumba said his force is financially constrained and badly needs two patrol vehicles to police areas around the Bus Park and Kampala road.“One of the most organised communities we have are the MPs. We have 300 MPs. If each MP contributes just sh200,000, that would give me sh60m,” he said.He told the Speaker that a similar effort targeting companies in and around the Industrial Area had yielded two vehicles. “I went in looking for one vehicle but we got two. I got a reconditioned vehicle from Bell (U) Breweries specifically for the Kitintale area. We expect the second to be ready either this week or next week.” The Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, hailed Katumba’s campaign, saying Parliament appreciates his efforts to re-build the image of the Police. He, however, sought clarification from Katumba regarding several issues including the steps taken to implement the Justice Julia Ssebutinde probe report, the many people on remand and mob justice.
