‘No need for more districts’

THE Minister of Works, Transport and Communications, John Nasasira, has said the formation of new districts does not make “economic sense” to him.

By Ebenezer BifubyekaTHE Minister of Works, Transport and Communications, John Nasasira, has said the formation of new districts does not make “economic sense” to him.Nasasira was on Friday reacting to Mbarara leaders’ request of elevating Ibanda and Kikagati counties to districts.“Districts are financially supported by donors. What if donors withdraw from giving grants to our districts? Will our government manage to fund all of them?” he asked.Nasasira was officiating at the swearing-in ceremony of the LC5 chairperson-elect, Fred Kamugira at Mbarara district headquarters.Nasasira asked Kamugira and his councillors to fight lethargy, indiscipline and corruption in the district administration. He said Mbarara MPs had formed a group to link the residents problems to the central government.The Mbarara Resident District Commissioner, Joseph Arwata, appealed to the LC officials to avoid putting their personal interests before the call of duty.
