Joseph “The African Express” Kiwanuka will get into the ring for the first time this year when he fights highly rated Julio Cesar Gonzalez of Mexico in a light heavyweight 10 rounder on April 27. The Las Vegas based Ugandan has fought in the middleweight since turning professional in 1992 and will be making his debut in the light heavyweight.Kiwanuka, a former North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super middleweight champion, comes up against Gonzalez, who lost a unanimous decision to WBC, WBA and IBF light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Junior last July.The Mexican fighter is rated number 11 by the World Boxing Council (WBC). He knocked out his last opponent, Tyrone Armstead, last year and comes into the fight having previously held fringe titles like the IBO, IBA, WBF and NBA in the light heavyweight — where his record stands at 28 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws and 18 KOs.Kiwanuka has a record of 28 wins 4 loses, 2 draws and 21 within the distance. The fight will be televised locally on KCAL 9 in California and will have a support bout featuring former WBU champion Carlos Navarro with an opponent yet to be established.The showcase will be promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotions.ends
