By Jonathan Angura THE Minister of State for Energy, Mr. Daudi Migereko, has called upon district officials to leave tenders to the local people at the sub-counties to avoid domination and corruption by district councillors.Migereko was speaking as chief guest at the swearing-in ceremony for the new Pallisa district chairman, Mr. Bob Wasugirya, and his council.The ceremony was presided over by Mbale chief magistrate Mr. Ndikabona Batema at Pallisa Boma grounds on Monday. He said under decentralisation, the government development projects should be handled by the sub-counties to benefit the local people in terms of employment.“If you allow resources to percolate downwards, corruption will be eradicated. Let the district handle what it is supposed to handle and the sub-counties handle theirs because through decentralisation, the president wanted the national cake to reach the grassroots,†Migereko said.Migereko said it was unfair for people from other areas to be awarded tenders in the district, denying the local people a chance to benefit from them. he said this encouraged shoddy work.Ends
