By Solomon MuyitaA UPDF Captain is seeking over sh20m pay from the government after allegedly missing his salary since 1987.Capt. Patrick Kato, attached to the Mubende Casualty Unit, yesterday came to The New Vision head office at Industrial Area in Kampala and said he has over the last 15-years been chasing for his pay, in vain. He held several documents pertaining to this matter.“I was told by Maj. Sabiiti, the director of records, that I share both the name and army number (RO-2203) with another person, and that the other one picks the salary,” said Kato. Kato’s right leg was amputated in 1999 at Mulago Hospital.“I appeal to President Yoweri Museveni to assist me,” he said. The Army spokesman, Maj. Shaban Bantariza yesterday said the soldier should go to his office because such cases are no longer there. “He is either a stupid captain, or someone who had deserted the army and was trying to come back. In fact he deserved arrest,” said Bantariza.Kato said he was promoted to the rank of captain last year. His wife abandoned him in 1999.Ends
