ETHICS and integrity minister Miria Matembe yesterday toured Sax Pub and put managing chief David Karinda to task to explain his business. Edris Kisambira reports that Matembe on Thursday named the pub, which is located on Luwuum Street, as promoting sexual immorality in Kampala. She also cited Mama Mia restaurant. Matembe was yesterday accompanied by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on presidential and parliamentary affairs, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo. She said the search was still going on to find out the exact place where striptease and prostitution is carried out.“I was told there is a bar called Sax. They even told me that the true sense of the word is sex not sax. That Sax is a disguise, that young girls strip on stage and dance on the stage and are later taken for sex. So please, Karinda, put down the phone and explain,” Matembe said as Karinda answered a call he had just received.Karinda said, “Honourable, you know me well. We have nothing whatsoever, nothing. This place is only a pub, we have no lodges. All our counters are for beers and other drinks. We have no organised counter for women, not even changing rooms.” He said the name Sax is derived from saxaphone, a musical instrument. “Sax is short for a saxaphone, I named the pub sax with that at the back of my mind. I had plans of introducing performers who play saxaphones,” Karinda said.Karinda said men and women come to the pub but that he cannot know whether they are prostitutes trying to woo clients.Ends
