MAKERERE University Geography department, Urban Planning section, is to redesign Mpigi town council to allow well planned structures to be erected.

By James Bakunzi In Mpigi MAKERERE University Geography department, Urban Planning section, is to redesign Mpigi town council to allow well planned structures to be erected. This was revealed by the coordinator and team leader of Makerere University, Rhoda Bazira, at a one-day seminar for Mpigi town council at the town council hall.The district LC5 chairman, Badru Mukalazi Kabega, who officiated at the function, appealed to districts to adapt long-term plans for their land so as to appreciate the value of urban planning.Joseph Semambo, a member of the university team said urban planning was essential for the development and continuity of the area.“Urban planning must be participatory. If you don’t involve all everyone, nothing tangible can be achieved,” he said.He said local council leaders and other categories of people would be involved in the process.He cited Nakasongola town council, Bombo and Luweero as those which Makerere University had assisted in urban planning.Mukalazi appealed to the people to appreciate urban planning.He said it was a long-term venture, which could lead to sustainable development in the districts.“We should all appreciate urban planning because it can eliminate all hazardous problems,” he said.Ends
