Bushenyi Policeman Discharged From Force Over Drunkenness

A POLICE constable, Deus Muhanguzi of Bushenyi Police Station, has been discharged from the Force for drunkenness, neglect of duty and discreditable conduct, writes Raynel Kanyambu.

A POLICE constable, Deus Muhanguzi of Bushenyi Police Station, has been discharged from the Force for drunkenness, neglect of duty and discreditable conduct, writes Raynel Kanyambu.The Police Disciplinary Court, presided over by Inspector James Kagibwami, said on April 22 at Ruhandagazi slum near Bushenyi town, Muhanguzi was drunk during the day and armed with a gun, contrary to the Police code of conduct.Court passed the judgement to discharge Muhanguzi and forwarded the file to the Police headquarters for final action. Muhanguzi was arrested after residents told the Police that he was helpless, drunk and sleeping in the slum, armed with a gun.The District Police Commander, Mr. Mackmot Okello, told The New Vision that Muhanguzi’s behaviour tarnished the image of the Police Force.He said the court’s decision was based on the witnesses’ evidence and a medical report.Okello warned other policemen against drinking alcohol during working hours. He said they would otherwise face the same fate.Ends
